National Wear Red Day Today is National Wear Red Day — a day meant to promote awareness of women’s heart disease. “The Heart Truth” is a program of the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute (NHLBI), part of the National Institutes of Health, U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.

At 11 a.m. there will be a runway show (at “the Tent” in Bryant Park) at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week for The Heart’s Truth Red Dress Collection featuring a host of “celebrated women” wearing dresses by several different top fashion designers.

Here is some more information from a press release put out by the National Institutes of Health:

“The 2007 program will bring together “celebrated women” from the performing arts, literature, fashion, business, food, media/journalism, and sports on one runway to support the issue and prompt women to take action to protect their heart health. They will be wearing Red Dresses created by the following top designers: Betsey Johnson, Calvin Klein, Carmen Marc Valvo, Carolina Herrera, Daniel Swarovski, Diane von Furstenberg, Donna Karan, Jovovich-Hawk, Kenneth Cole, Max Azria Atelier, Michael Kors, Narciso Rodriguez, Nicole Miller, Oscar de la Renta, Peter Som, Ralph Lauren, Tracy Reese, Vera Wang, Zac Posen, and more. The Fashion Show is presented by Johnson & Johnson and affiliated companies, with national sponsors Celestial Seasonings and Swarovski, and media partner Lifetime.”
