Kate Moss is adding fashion designer to her list of credits. It was recently announced that Moss will be designing an apparel collection for London High Street retailer Topshop. Her first clothing collection will launch in the Spring of 2007 in all of Topshop’s stores and also online.
This is yet another indicator of Kate Moss’ recent “comeback” after her 2005 drug scandal. According to the BBC, she is currently featured in ads for fashion designers and companies such as Rimmel, Chanel, Bulgari, Agent Provocateur, Louis Vuitton, Dior, Burberry and Calivin Klein Jeans, among others.
The supermodel’s Topshop deal has been rumored to be in the works for months now, with speculation further mounting when she was seen sitting next to Sir Philip Green — the owner of Topshop’s parent group — at Topshop’s London Fashion Week show.
Kate Moss is, according to many, the most stylish woman in the world. In fact, she is also considered to be more influential than many working designers. It thus isn’t surprising to think of how lucrative a deal between the model and the retailer could be. Lots of women look to Kate Moss as a fashion icon and try to emulate her style. Designing a collection for Topshop makes Kate’s fashion sense accessible to her fans and the general public. As Sir Philip Green himself put it, “[our] customers identify with her.”
As stated by the Telegraph,
Moss, who has an incredible knack for putting together new looks and kick-starting trends, will start working on the range this week and the collection will hit 308 branches across the country next spring. She will act as an inspiration and starting point for the range, giving a team of designers a direction to work towards. Green also suggested that this will be a long-term deal and not simply a one-off.
Furthermore, it helps that Kate Moss herself is an avid Topshop shopper and fan.
We’re looking forward to seeing what kinds of items Kate Moss designs for Topshop and are sure this will only serve to keep Kate at the top of her game, as the queen of fashion and style.
